DIY Christmas Bunting Tutorial – Cards & Crafts for Christmas14th August 2018
Our sister title, Cards & Crafts for Christmas, hits the shelves on the 23rd August – but we’re so excited, we just couldn’t wait to share with you an exclusive project to make your own DIY Christmas Bunting.
Featured in the annual magazine is a fabulous Scandi-themed set of home décor items, and Angela Harkness made so many lovely projects that we couldn’t fit everything in! Here’s how to make her applique Christmas bunting using Gemini Multi-Media Miniature Friends dies.
DIY Christmas Bunting Tutorial
Multi-Media Miniature Friends Winter Warmer, Reindeer, Festive Treats & Santa dies
Threaders felt bundle
Makower Scandi fabric
Stick and Spray for Fabric
manual die-cutting machine
sewing machine (optional)
Main fabric: 10 pennant shapes using the bunting template
1 Die-cut and assemble the felt motifs then position in place on each pennant front using Stick and Spray for Fabric. Stitch in place either by hand or machine.
2 Sew the decorative beads, buttons and bells in place as shown.
3 Place a back and front pennant right sides together then stitch from the top edge, around the edges, leaving the top edge open for turning. Trim the corners, turn through and press. Repeat for as many pennants as you require.
4 Attach the binding to the pennants. Leave a length for hanging before pinning the first pennant’s top edge, encasing all raw edges as you go. Leave a narrow gap before attaching subsequent pennants. Sew hanging rings/loops on each end of the binding.
